The “Black Diamonds” was an aerobatic display team of the Royal Australian Air Force from 1961 until 1964. The team flew four CA-27 Mk.32 Sabres of No. 75 Squadron

CAC CA-27 Sabre

The Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) CA-27 Sabre is an Australian single-seat, single-engine fighter and fighter bomber variant of the North American F-86-F Sabre. It made its first flight on August 3, 1953, and entered service in 1954. One hundred twelve airframes were built before production ended in 1961.

Using the Rolls-Royce Avon instead of the General Electric J47 required a fuselage redesign. Two 30mm ADEN cannons replaced the F-86F’s six machine guns, the cockpit was changed, and fuel capacity increased.

The type saw action in the late 1950s during the Malayan Emergency. Ex-RAAF models served with the Royal Malaysian Air Force and the Indonesian Air Force.

The armament consisted of two Aden cannons in the fuselage nose and four external hardpoints carrying up to 2,400 kg (5,300 lb) of stores
