To celebrate the opening of the new Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit in 1984, Mercedes-Benz decided to gather together 20 of the world’s top drivers to be put head to head in identical Mercedes Benz 190 E 2.3-16 sedans to see who would be the champion of champions. The cars had light modifications from their prodution spec but were all identical except for the paint colour (10 in Smoke Silver and 10 in Blue-Black Metallic).

The grid was filled with the who’s-who of racers of the time with 5 of the 9 living F1 World Champions taking part, plus one future champion who managed to upstage the established legends!

A young Ayrton Senna took victory in the #11 machine ahead of Niki Lauda in #18 and Carlos Reutemann in #4. Reports from the event say that Hans Hermann had negotiated a deal to buy his car after the event so he happily stayed in last place so as to not damage his brand new Mercedes.

Mini GT have announced a special production of EVERY car from this race in one special package, limited to only 5,000 units world wide. The full grid will not be produced individually. Only these 5,000 sets will be made.
