The original TARDIS prop was modified in "The War Games" and this version was used throughout the Third Doctor's stories and for the Fourth Doctor's first two years.

Various repairs were made during this time, most notably, it was given a fresh coat of paint.

The original prop was eventually retired in 1974, meaning it had been in service for 13 years.
